How Much New Zealanders Pay for a Date Compared to the Rest of the World

The good news is, we’re quite high up the list, the bad news is we’re quite high up the list.

A recent study by the good folks at Elitesingles looked at how much an average date costs in major cities around the world. The date is specified at a mid-range dinner for two, a shared bottle of wine, two movie tickets, and an 8km taxi ride home. So if you were wondering where most of the price went it’s in those bloody movie ticket prices and the robbery by the taxi driver.

A date in Colombia is only NZ$60, less half of what it would cost in Auckland. Auckland is in the upper end of the spectrum at 8th place. It costs us $142 to get away from the kids and get a little sloshed. The same date is cheaper in Paris, the city of romance and Sydney, the city of… I dunno. Bad traffic?

We are however cheaper to eat at than the big cities that always get destroyed first in the movies. Tokyo ($176) and New York (167) are second and third respectively and London and Hong Kong are just a tad more expensive than Auckland.

Check out the full list below.
