Watch Lake Waikaremoana Bridge Break With Trampers On It

Living in NZ you’ve probably walked along a cable bridge much like this one. Chances are there was that one person in your group that wanted to jiggle the bridge with everyone else on it even. Here’s what happens when everyones worst fears are realized.

Some French trampers were walking across the 65m-long Hopu Ruahine bridge when one of the cables suddenly snaps sending them all into the river 8m below. Fortunately they all survived and lived to tell the tale (if you speak French).

Of the four trampers only one was left clinging to the bridge. And yes, the bridge had a warning on it saying that it could take a max of 10 people.

An investigation found that it broke “due to a rare manufacturing defect in a link of the cable that snapped.”
